Good article. If washable paint was around when I was little, mom probably would've gotten better resale value on the old house! Then again, I never did get beyond stick figures, so the constriction of my creative tendencies was no great loss. :)

Jarn, it seems to me that kids and resale value don't belong in the same sentence. Having said that, it is the Sharpe stick people and scribbles that are giving me trouble. :)
Ivorwen, also beware of people giving your toddler(s) rubber stamps. I failed to notice right away some prints of pink penguins which got made on a white door. Oops. They'll come off eventually, I'm sure.
Oh yes, the kids were given a bunch of those one year! They stamped the walls of their room before I realized what they had. It did come off though, with the help of a magic eraser.
This is great idea since my 2 yr-old kid loves to write on anything - books, table surface, blackboard, chair, etc. using ballpen (he never liked pencil, he would throw it away when I give it to him).

Thanks Beth, I have found that washable paint and markers are much preferred by toddlers, over pencils and crayons. They are so much easier to use.

PBS had a painting show a number of years ago that was a favorite at our house, and I remember being glad that there was someone who could teach my children things about art that I could never have taught them. I remember, also, one day when one of my daughters shook up her can of paint or thinner and paint, just as she had seen the painter do on TV. I do wish I had not gotten so uptight about things like that! It was only a little brown paint on the dining room wall, and my little kids grew up so fast.

Paint does have a tendency to go everywhere. Having scrubbed quite a bit of it off the table and the floor, I do love the washable stuff!

Most kids love to paint. Washable paints and crayolas are essential if the kids are to really get into it. Good hub.
